For his works, Roeland Kneepkens likes to have real contact with the models he paints. They are family members, friends and acquaintances of his, as well as strangers. In that contact, Roeland observes and marvels: why do people come together, what clothes do they wear, how do they have fun and what do they share with each other. This fascination with people and their doings is evident in his paintings. Much of his work is about friendships. We see people in all kinds of situations. Laughing, talking, toasting, enjoying good food or while playing cards or poker.
